To help support your safe driving, Suzuki has developed an Advanced Forward Detection System* (RS). This new system employs a state-of-the-art monocular camera, laser sensor, and millimetre-wave radar with the aim of assisting you to avoid a collision or minimise the damage.

Famously fun and seriously safe

It's a hectic world out there so prevention and protection are essential in the car you drive. The Swift's sound structure, effective passive features, and advanced safety assist technologies provide the best chance of survival in a collision or avoiding one altogether.

Safety assist technologies
  • Dual Sensor Brake Support The Swift's monocular camera 'sees' mid-to-long distance and can detect pedestrians. The laser sensor is for short-distances and at night. Using information from these sensors Swift can detect a potential collision and act in any of the following ways depending on the situation:
  • Adaptive Cruise Control When there is a vehicle in front of you, Swift's adaptive cruise control system uses millimetre-wave radar to automatically maintain your following distance depending on the setting selected and vehicle speed.
  • Cruise control Swift's cruise control enables the vehicle to automatically maintain a set speed without the need to operate the accelerator pedal. This reduces driver fatigue when driving at open road speeds or over long distances and also improves fuel efficiency by eliminating unnecessary acceleration and braking.
  • Lane departure warning At 60km/h or faster this system predicts the path of the vehicle and if you are drifting, vibrates the Swift's steering wheel and gives you a visual warning.
  • Weaving alert This system in the Swift calculates your driving pattern and issues audio and visual warnings if it detects you're 'wandering' due to driver fatigue, for example.
  • Hill hold control Hill starts are easy as the Swift's brake is automatically applied until you move forward, preventing you rolling backwards. Available on auto models only.
  • Reverse Camera Swift's 7-inch touchscreen display comes with a built-in reversing camera to help you park and increase safety when backing-up.
  • Rear parking proximity sensors Parking is safer and easier with ultrasonic sensors in the rear bumper that detect obstacles and send you a warning you can both see and hear (RS).
  • Speed limiter The speed limiter function allows you to set a maximum speed for safe driving in the Swift.
Braking and stability
  • ESP Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) helps you stay in control when you are cornering by counteracting understeer and oversteer. It also improves traction and reduces skidding - whatever the road surface conditions.
  • ABS and EBD Braking force on each wheel is automatically adjusted in relation to the available grip to provide the right amount of pressure to bring the vehicle to a safe, controlled stop. Swift features dynamic ventilated front disc brakes and rear drums.
  • Brake Assist Brake Assist adjusts braking force when the brake pedal hasn't been fully depressed in an emergency braking situation. Based on the speed at which the brake pedal is depressed, the onboard computer determines whether it is an emergency braking situation and adds brake force to achieve optimum deceleration.
  • 4-wheel disc brakes To cope with the increased demands of the Swift RS' performance, the braking system has been optimised with larger ventilated front discs. Combined with the solid rear discs, the Swift has superior braking power and fade resistance.
Passive Safety

Passive safety features activate as required during an accident, working to minimse damage and reduce the risk of injury during the time of impact.

  • SRS advanced airbags The front air bags for the driver and passenger deploy when a moderate or severe frontal impact is detected, minimising the impact to the head and chest. Curtain and front side air bags are provided for side impact collisions, mitigating the impact to head and chest areas of the occupants. SRS airbags are designed to work in conjunction with properly worn seatbelts.
  • Seatbelt reminders Three-point seatbelts incorporate both a lap and sash belt spreading the load over the chest, pelvis and shoulders. Pretensioners allow the seat belt to freely extend and retract with occupant movement, locking the belt during a sudden stop or upon impact. The force limiter works in conjunction with the pretensioner, gradually releasing the force applied to the chest of occupants.
  • Child seat tether anchorages Top tether anchorages in the Swift are upper anchorage points over the back of the seat enabling child restraints to be adequately secured to the vehicle.
  • Child seat ISOFIX anchorages The ISOFIX child seat attachment anchorages makes it easier to securely install a compatible child seat by pushing the connector, mounted underneath the child seat, into the attachment point on the vehicle side.

With BOOSTERJET technology, Suzuki's new generation of engines use cutting-edge technology, engineering and materials to deliver the power, torque, and feisty feel you would expect from an engine twice it's size. From SUVs to hot hatchbacks, this advanced turbo engine technology consumes less fuel and has lower emissions - so how on earth is this possible?

Direct injection

By directly injecting the optimum amount of fuel into the cylinders BoosterJet engines optimise combustion and thus reduce fuel consumption. Six-hole injector nozzles and a high-pressure pump quickly create the ideal air-fuel mixture inside the cylinder. Even the shape of the intake ports and the pistons themselves have been designed to generate a stronger tumble flow, ensuring cleaner, more stable combustion.

Turbo Charged

If an engine can burn a greater amount of fuel-air mixture in a given time, output can be raised without increasing size or displacement. To achieve this, BoosterJet engines have a turbocharger which utilizes the energy of the exhaust gases to drive turbines and force-feed compressed air into the cylinders. You'll immediately feel the difference with more torque available, even at lower revs.

This special valve controls boost pressure in order to prioritise either fuel efficiency or dynamic performance depending on the driving situation. Round town the waste gate opens for more fuel-efficient driving. Then, when you need acceleration, the valve closes to increase boost pressure delivering instant performance and power.
